Don’t you want to better yourself this year?
This year, I’m really trying to set better goals for myself.
I promised myself that I would actually achieve them this year, but I needed a plan on actually following through with them.
Instead of just having the idea in my head, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to have a smart plan to achieve my resolutions, so I can improve myself.
Here, I’m going to share with you my plan on how to achieve your New Year’s Resolutions.
1. Think of the goals you want to achieve for yourself this year
The first step is to actually think about what you want to achieve this year.
Is it booking 5 acting jobs? Or is it to get into that special musical theatre intensive in New York? Think of a goal (or a few) and stick to it!
2. Write it down!
The second step is to write down your goal(s). When you write down the goals you want to achieve, you have a higher chance of actually achieving them.
Writing down your goals may seem trivial, but I promise that this step works!
Putting your goals down on paper reinforces them and helps you to achieve them.
3. Break down the goal(s) into mini-goals
In order to have any sense of direction on actually achieving your goals, you need to break down the steps.
For example, one of my goals is to get healthy this year. This is a very broad goal, and I’m eating at a college dining hall so I’m breaking it down so I can do all I can while I’m at school:
- Drinking at least 8 glasses of water
- Exercise for 30+ minutes 5 days a week
- Eat some vegetables with every meal
- Have a piece of fruit every day
To break down the goals into steps makes them more achievable.
Another way to break down the goals is to make the overarching goal time based (ex. Save $1000 each month) and organize your mini-goals so every week, you are doing one step to achieve your big goal!
I like this because it’s very precise and as long as you stick to it, you will achieve your goals! It’s foolproof as long as you are diligent and never give up 🙂
4. Celebrate with a reward!
To give yourself even more of an incentive to achieve your goal, I suggest having a nice reward at the end of your journey!
Whether it’s to get some new clothes at the shopping mall, or to buy yourself tickets to Hamilton :D, reward yourself.
It’s good to take care of yourself, and to celebrate what you’ve achieved.
Now, don’t make this a super tiny reward, like a $5 item. Make it count!
Overall, I really suggest setting some goals this year.
Self-improvement is something I will be stressing on this blog A LOT.
As performers, we strive to become the best we can be! If we don’t take the time to set goals, we are never going to improve.
You will always remain stagnant if you never take the time to improve yourself.
Have a happy 2017!

P.S. This week I found an awesome tribute to actress Debbie Reynolds on YouTube. Book of Mormon actor Christopher Rice recreated the “Good Morning” scene from Singing in the Rain and it is TOTALLY AWESOME 😀
P.P.S. I plan on blogging every Monday from now on, so yay 🙂
